Molded Timber -
Architectural Proposal
This project
uses molded timber techniques in the design of a hostel
and market in Amsterdam. The flat patterns nest together without waste,
creating reciprocal relationships between spaces. These are then folded up
into three dimensions and re-arranged according to conditions
on site, with circulation and structure woven between them. When simulating the bedroom spaces, simple constraints such as a flat area for a bed or walkway are established - however the simulated, developable material becomes an active design collaborator by interpolating between these constraints according to its own character.
