Molded Timber - Woodwind Instruments
These studies researched molded timber
simulation and fabrication strategies, through the design of woodwind
instruments (ocarinas). The geometry was simulated by applying gravitional loads to developable mesh patterns, which self-form according to their boundary constraints. The
acoustic character of the ocarinas was not pre-planned, and results from the design and manufacture quirks that occurred in each piece. The music heard in the film was composed and recorded with the ocarinas, using the specific range of notes they offer.
