Molded Timber -
Architectural Prototypes
These
studies apply insights from the molded timber
woodwind instruments to
architectural applications. All the pieces
avoid ‘darts’ and instead negotiate curvature within the body of the material. Learning from Mark West and the Eameses, the work attempts to draw
fabric-like curvature from timber veneers, and embraces the resulting language
of folds and buckles. Insulated ‘sandwich’ panels begin to speculate on a 1:1 molded
timber fabrication system.
